Summer Edition ‘012 Day 30, 27nd of August: Long Journey Home

Seriously? Did I write the H.O.M.E. word? I did… 30 days gone from Freiburg, 2 weeks off Germany… It dosn’t feel like that! One year ago I sat in my host family’s home and waited for Irene, the “Hurricane” to come… Looking backit was so funny. Chatting all day long with my friends home, with Veronica (in swedish) and with my new friends staying in New York at the time. Especially the conversation with Anita was one of the best! I remember we tried talking german but we didn’t understand each other =)DSC_0254 DSC_0253 DSC_0255

So the morning was great! I got up, had a shower, had tea, Ronan made toast with scrambled egges for us. I had to say goodbye to Kieran first cuz he had to leave for work although it was Bank Holiday Monday! (Don’t ask me what it is exactly I just know that some holidays are called like that :P)

So Ronan was so kind to bring me to the bus station, unfortunately they didn’t have any vacancies anymore so I had to switch to train for 27 pounds that was fine. Oh, did I tell I am skipping Glasgow and going directly to Edinburgh? (If I just wouldn’t have done that…) So Ronan helped me for I was pretty confused!

I got a taxi to the Docks where I took a ferry from Belfast to Cairnryan with “Stena Superfast VII”. It’s been a rough weather, greyer than grey No. 2! But first… The 10 songs on my way to Edinburgh:

1. FM- Belfast- Believe
2. The National- Guest Room
3. King Of Convenience- Stay Out Of Trouble
4. Archive- Nightmare Is Over
5. Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood- Some Velvet Morning
6. John Butler Trio- Fire In The Sky
7. Incubus- Pendulous Threads
8. Xavier Rudd- This World As We Know It
9. Ratatat- Falcon Jab
10. Martha Wainwright- Une Enfant

Almost every train was delayed by the bad weather…

Strangers, I like them <3

We were over half an hour delayed, had to take a bus to Ayr where I had to wait for a train to Glasgow, there I switched trains again to Edinburgh. Somehow I was on the right platform but I took the wrong teain for the platform was split into two parts or something like that- great!

Trainstation Glasgow, next time I stay here!

Sunny(!) Scotland

Drove to Paisley Canal at 18:05 and back to Glasgow on the same train, someone else, a mother and her two children, were also wrong. After 40 minutes I was back in Glasgow and finally got on the right train, the playlist on the wrong train:

1. Le Tigre- Eau d’bedroom
2. Chromeo- Mr. DJ
3. Jeff Tweedy- Simple Twist Of Fate!
4. Bryan Ferry & Roxy Music- Slave To Love
5. Peter Licht- Safarinachmittag
6. Emil Bulls- Friday Night unplugged
7. The La’s- I can’t sleep
8. Die Ärzte- 1/2 Lovesong
9. Sufjan Stevens- Prairie Fire That Wanders About
10. Cary Brothers- Something

I have to go far more back, to my bus travel!

Scotland is SOOOOOOO beautiful! I didn’t have my camera with me at the moment so I couldn’t take any photos, such a shame! Even the sky was kind of coming down it was so beautiful! On the ferry I got a little seasick, but just a little. I know my Dad would love it in Scotland.

All following pictures shot on the North Bridge during a beautiful sunset :)))

As soon as I arrived in Glasgow station the weather changed from rain to sun and finally in Edinburgh a beautifulevening sky surprised me on the North Bridge. I went to the Royal Mile and ran into a group of scottish musicians, it was the ending of an arts fetival “Fringe”, you might haver heard. I went to the Tron Church to find musicians as well and when I actually wanted to eat I found a bar “Whistle Binkies” where there was an open Mic Night!!! I am a lucky girl =)

I singed up for slot No.1, all the others would have been very late. The gig was awesome, besides my guitar battery was empty once again, so I had to take the host’s guitar! I had lots of fun, a cider, a free beer, a nonstopping water in the sink of the toilet and I was waiting for my next couchsurfing host to appear. So much about Tom. He drove me crazy & made me kind of angry which I wasn’t afraid to tell & show him! Even if I am a guest I have rights to tell from my mind straightly! No more about him.

The list I signed up

PS: Tom, If you read this, could you please send me my fucking t-shirt, cardigan and vomiting-unicorn button back??? Thank you!!! (The rest of you: Excuse me my tone, but I am pissed off, still!)

Summer Edition ‘012 Day 29, 26nd of August: 2 Weeks Left!

Wow. In about 2 weeks I am about to wake up at Hanna’s house… Time flies, I don’t want vacation to be over :) Of course I have to say that, although I am missing work a little bit!

So I slept on a couch again, I am looking forward my own bed =) But I love this adventure anyhow!

Right now I am sitting by a window on a ferry from Belfast to Great Britain, greyer than grey. Rain, rain…

Sunday was very sunny but kind of cold- I am not getting used to this weather! When I got up the boys were up as well- tea time! “Tea & Toast Make Everything Better” (I’m gonna quote this in one of my next songs, sorry.) So said Ronan and it’s true. I kinda had 12056 cups of black tea with milk- typical irish/brithis =) Even in the middle of the night you are getting tea offered!

We went outside, walked near the river Lagan, crossed Central Station and got to St. Georges Market. It seems to me as if every arcade like market is called St. George, at least in Ireland! Don’t forget: Northern Ireland is not euro-zone (I knew that) so it is Pounds already BUT(!!) Don’t take any notes from NI to the UK because they don’t look the same and most of the UK won’t take these notes, cuz they think you might scam them!

So we went there, it was kind of an artist flea, not as pretty as in Williamsburg but nice as well! You can also buy fish & vegetables there, have food (I had veggie soy curry) and buy cupcakes, old stuff (bought 2 film rolls, I am excited if they are ok, for they expired 2006 [sadly they are quite normal…]) actually I wanted to buy new film rolls but I won’t pay 20 € for 4 rolls! Sorry. That is simply too much!

I love old couples, they often remind me of my grandparents :)

The crooked tower of Belfast

I walked through the city on my own and took some photos, of course! Wouldn’t be me if I didn’t take any! I had a Frozen Yoghurt and when I returned to the flat I checked my stuff on the internet. Together we went to a strange place, a barbeque with DJs, entry 10pounds but the drinks were pretty cheap, 5 pounds for 3 beers or 8 pounds for a cocktail in a bucket.

I just LOVE this picture of the three of us!

Me, Kieran and Viccy

The gang

But the music was aweful and the people were strange- not us of course ;) We had our fun. We went there because one girl was about to turn 25. But before that (I had 6 beers and was pretty drunk) we went to another bar (Filthy McNasty’s), we had some struggles to get in, because it was actually full! But we made it and… there was on Open Mic Night!

DSC_0230 DSC_0236 DSC_0247 DSC_0248

I instantly asked the host if I could join and I could play any minute! I played Chewed-Up Tape, Shallow and Sleep. It was hard because everyone was drunk, including me, but it was fun and some people came to me later on and saifd that they liked it! :) Whoohooo!

Nice bar I can recommend it to you! It is btw the favorite bar of my hosts, if I do remember right, do I? ;)

And the best: I got a free drink for playing! (Not drunk enough, you see)

So I went back home with Kieran after midnight, the others went on to party, but I was so tired but happy that i just needed to sleep. Cuz I needed to =) (quoting yourself is so lame.) -> Journey will go on tomorrow in the very morning!

Summer Edition ´012 Day 25, 22nd of August: The Reunion

Even if I thought I reached/arrived at my vacation finally (in Stockholm), I haven’t . Now I am, I think! No stress, I don’t run around like a crazy chicken, I am enjoying the moment.

entry from the rooftop to the flat I lived in

I don’t know what exactly it is, but I don’t trust my couchsurfing host entirely and  I am very glad I am having Svenja with whom I can spend my time with.

next to me is Nicci, she is a member of Amnesty Interntaional and since then me too!

the first busker I saw on Grafton Street

true story

All day long I brought my guitar with me for I wanted to join an open mic night, whereever it might be! I walked through the streets of Dublin, talked to my mother on the phone and was happy to be here! Suddenly I found myself standing in ront of “The International Bar” a bar which was recommende by Brandon and there would be an open mic tonight!!!

this guy took a photo of me :D

I was sitting at Dame Street waiting for Svenja having lunch break so we could have lunch somewhere. We went to a nice cafe just around the corner of the central bank where we had huge sandwiches, chips and tea!!! Delicious :)

And it was/is so great (I’m repeating myself, I know) after such a long time of 6 years and talking & talking! Much better than keeping up on the internet, even that is great too, but it is just different!

I brought her back to work and she told me anice place to walk: a small canal where I sat down and played some songs. The sun was shining as well (I mention that because that is not for granted here!). But actually the weather is more grey than anything else! It is heavily raining, fine again and that is just repeating all the time!

Svenja and me met again around 5 pm and we went to several bars because she had to do something there for work.

When she was finished with that we walked to her place, a very cute small house which is not so far away from the city centre. We had greek-style salads, delicious tea and went to “The International Bar” where we were like one of the first guests! :) But this was fine buz I had the choice when I’d like to play there this evening!!!

I had a cider and when the open stage finally began (completely unplugged) the host Johnny told everyonbe in the room to have respect for the musicians and poets and remain quiet, which is actually a nice concept, but I understand if poeple are pissed because of that :D I also said hi from Brandon, I expected that the host won’t know who I am talking about but he actually did know him! Funny, never thought that I thought this was a joke.

I was quite excited when I got on stage but once I begin I forgot that I was nervous in the very beginning.

I played Chewed-Up Tape, Sleep and Shallow and it was just great, I really enjoyed it and, hopefully, so did the audience. This was the very first time I played live in another country than Germany.

After that (there were so amazaning S/Sws) we went upstairs for there was some “real irish” playing some folk like music =) It was a very beautiful day & evening with Svenja I am glad we met again!!!

PS: Happy Birthday, Carina and auntie Sigi!
