New York as a Tourist

Hello!
Actually this is exactly one year ago, and finally i am Posting IT today :)

Last weekend my friend Mai I met in New York visited me on her way home to Tokio, Japan. I was very happy, when she told me she is coming to my town Freiburg to meet me So I made some plans, what I could show her, what we could do and especially what we are about to eat!

So this is also kind of a little Tour Guide for you as well ;)

After work I went straight to the trainstation to pick Mai up, unfortunately we missed each other and so I went to the hotel she was staying in near by. She haven’t arrived yet so I waited for her some time and when she finally showed up I was so overwhelmed to meet her again!!!

I waited for her in the lobby for she could bring her stuff to her room. We walked through the city, I showed her some place but we both were starving. So I took her to one of my favorite places “Oma’s Küche” (granny’s kitchen) and we had dinner. Yummy!!!

I had “Käsespätzle” and a “Radler” (beer mixed with sprite), Mai had the same, for I highly recommended Käsespätzle (and I always do!)

After dinner we went to the place I regularly go every thursday. “Freiburg Bar” for tonight’s karaoke night. It was sick! And with sick I mean great! It was the first time, Mai sang karaoke in front of more than a box full of people. You know, in Japan it is “tradition” to sing karaoke in boxes and not in front of an audience.

You’ll learn things you never knew you never knew…

She was singing “Colours of the Wind” (Pocahontas) and it was so beautiful!!!

But when “Ich war noch niemals in New York” came up we were partying so hard, happy about the here and now and happy about having met one year ago in NYC!!!

After the last song (2am) I brought her to her hotel and I went straight to bed, for I had to get up in the morning for work, as I have to every day :P

Mai visited me at work and I showed her around.

Summer Edition ‘012 Day 42, 8th of September: A Long Expected Journey

ontheroad

Well- not really long expected, but since Paris it seemed to me very long! Just another hours of Paris prrofing how nice (not!) it is- thank you- I will hopefully not return.

At least one place on my journey must be like that ;)

DSC_3162
I need to cut my fringe!!!

So I went with my luggage to Gare ‘l Est and waited a long time for I was far too early! I took the TGV to Karlsruhe with the following songs:

1. Sophie Nash- Don’t be fooled (I won’t)
2. Get Well Soon (Hopefully I will)- You Use All Your Senses Just For Being Sad
3. Joseph Arthur- You’re So True (Thanks, Joe!)
4. Paolo Nutini- Alloway Grove
5. Foo Fighters- All My Life (Always yes!)
6.  Dredg- Quotes
7. Mika- Now I Know How Morrisey Felt (kinda yes!)
8. INXS- Devil Inside (of course)
9. Sophia- So Slow
10. Fred Astaire- A Needle In The Haystack

Hanna and her boyfriend (now fiance) Ante picked me up at the station with their cabriolet & it was so frwaking warm in Germany! Hadn’t had these temperatures in weeks! Sunny & Happy =)

First we went to their place & then hanna took me to the city to show me the castle, the theatre & a shopping mall… I spent there much money- bought a cute squirrel pillow & a yellow coat for autumn.

DSC_3191

When we got back we cooked a delicious and, without the tomato-onion-feta salad- a vegan dish! Had noodles with vegetables- delicious! Hadn’t had such great food since… Mh…

We watched TV & drank german beer a la “Alsterwasser”.

Slept tight on their couch :)

Last Couch for this vacation!!!

Summer Edition ‘012 Day 38 4th of September: No Title

header_london

When I woke up my foot was worse than the day before- great!!!

I think I walked too much but still there’s so much to see! Classical dilemma! (At this point of my voyage I didn’t know my foot was broken… I found afterwards in Germany!)

DSC_1994DSC_2005 DSC_2012

Went straight to Picadilly Circus to buy a ticket for “We Will Rock You”- which was a great decision! I went to Notting Hill to finally see the Portobello Road Market! Beautiful I can tell, bought a “Notting Hill Shopping Bag”, the design of Natalie Imbruglia (there are several designs), bought at a 1 pound shop a film roll!!! & I found some original Banksys!!! Whoohoo! Found a famous one which is already protected & a new one- still I am not 100% sure if it is a Banksy grafitty or not. (Edit: It wasn’t) I was proud finding something on my own without the help of a smartphone or other devices!

For lunch I had a vegan falafel wrap- so delicious!!!

I waited for Sharif but when he didn’t show up after 2 hours of waiting ( I am good at waiting but enough is enough :D)  I left for Camden Town. I liked it but when I went to Camden Lock Market on the ground I really felt uncomfortable, you know. My issue. And I just needed and wanted to leave and so I did. Glad, Sharif showed up not long after that.

there was one too… :(

Then we went “Banksy Hunting” together, which was really fun! Some we found, some were already gone. Sharif took me to Brick Lane, Beigel Bake where we had delicious pieces of cheese cake, which he gave to me. It was four pieces and he was like “Ms. Church, you eat all of them…” He is a little crazy, you know… Four pieces for me? I don’t think about that too long!!! ;) (He took 1 piece at least).

DSC_2161 DSC_2183 DSC_2237 DSC_2247

Unfortunately we didn’t have so much time for I had to be at the Dominion Theatre around 7 o’clock to pick up my ticket.
I enjoyed “We Will Rock You” so much!!! It wasn’t sold out so I could get an even better place I had before (and this one was good as well, and cheap!) So I had a great seat in the stalls of only 40 pounds! I really liked the show but I already told you that I guess =)

DSC_2056 DSC_2300 DSC_2302

I went to New Oxford Street to see one more Banksy & went home.

DSC_2304 DSC_2306 DSC_2310 DSC_2317

my favorite one!!!

at night at Picadilly

The movie “Anna Karenina” (by Tolstoj) had it’s premiere at the Odeon Cinema & when I went there after the show everything was gone already, no Jude, no Keira, too bad :P But I had a nice day though!
